What is Thuraya M2M?
M2M (Machine-to-Machine) enables automated data transfer between equipment and applications without human interaction. In remote operations, satellite M2M provides critical resilience where GSM/LTE is unavailable, unreliable, or not designed for harsh environments. Typical use cases include telemetry, tracking, monitoring, periodic reporting and remote diagnostics.

Business rules (contract & billing)
The following practical rules help teams plan deployments and avoid surprises. If you need a simplified summary for procurement, we can provide a short commercial note on request.
- Subscription: A subscription is the subscriber plus the terminal(s) assigned to that subscriber. Each terminal is assigned a price plan. A subscriber may have multiple terminals as long as all terminals use the same price plan.
- Activation fee: Activation is typically not charged.
- Monthly subscription fee: Charged monthly in advance from the activation date of the terminal. Minimum contract period begins from subscription creation and runs for the selected number of months.
- Usage allowance: Each plan includes a monthly allowance. Unused allowance expires at month end and does not roll over. Usage above allowance is billed in addition to the monthly fee at the plan’s unit rate.
- Charging method: M2M data is volume-based (uplink + downlink combined) and billed on actual usage (per byte).
- Billing increment: Prices are expressed per MB where 1 MB = 1,000 KB and 1 KB = 1,000 bytes.
- Minimum contract period: Subscription must remain active for the minimum term (commonly 12/24/36 months). Early termination may incur fees equivalent to remaining subscription charges.
- Automatic renewal: After the minimum term, subscriptions may renew automatically under the same contract term unless deactivated in time.
- Plan upgrade: Upgrades from a lower plan to a higher plan are typically applied from the 1st of the following month, with no proration and no administrative charge. Contract expiry is retained.
- Suspension: Service suspension may not be available; operational planning should consider this.
- Time calculations: Period calculations are typically based on UTC.
- Airtime pooling: For multi-terminal deployments, pooled allowances may be supported when terminals are under the same subscription ID and on the same price plan (minimum 2 terminals).
